Perth Zoo
Perth Cadcentre has had a working relationship with the Perth Zoo for approximately 15 years providing site survey and CAD data capture and documentation services for the site, exhibits, operations facilities and below ground services.
Having very limited CAD or manual drawings, the project initially involved a site survey of all buildings and exhibits, followed by the preparation of CAD drawings for use in the Zoo’s data viewing system. Information captured and documented included:
- Building floor plans to an architectural standard (walls, doors, windows, etc.)
- Floor finishes
- Room numbers
- Any significant features
Information relating to the Zoo Site and below ground site services was also limited. As a result an extensive site survey was completed for these assets resulting in the documentation of all essential below ground services, including:
- General site features (fences, building locations, roads, paths, etc.)
- Artesian bore water supply
- Bore water
- Communications services
- Drainage services
- Electrical services
- Fire services
- Gas services
- Irrigation services
- Sewer
- Scheme water
The site services data collection process comprised the use of the following methods:
- Updating & formatting existing CAD drawings
- Digitizing existing hard copy drawings
- Hand excavation & detection of services
- Electronic detection devices
- GPS / Tablet PC data capture equipment
- Consultation with stake holders at all levels regarding knowledge of Zoo assets and services, including facilities staff, zoo keepers, maintenance staff & external contractors / consultants
The forming of a LIVE CAD database and image archive for all of the Zoo’s assets followed the survey work. All data was formatted to match an approved CAD convention and all assets were catalogued and assigned individual asset ID’s for database integration. This LIVE CAD database now underpins the Zoo’s asset management and asset viewing system.
Perth Cadcentre has a continued involvement with Perth Zoo in maintaining their CAD baseplan and image database, as well as providing general CAD services as required.
